Wales at the Commonwealth Games
Wales made its Commonwealth Games debut in Hamilton, Canada in 1930 and is one of only six nations to have taken part in every Games since.
Swimmer Valerie Davies, from Cardiff, who struck two silvers in Hamilton, won Wales' first Commonwealth medals and it wasn't until 1938 in Sydney that Wales first secured a gold medal, which came from both athletics and boxing.
Cardiff played host in 1958 to the then Empire Games and the hero was boxer Howard Winstone who won the gold in the men's bantamweight division.
Wales secured its highest ever medal tally to date in Manchester 2002; returning home with 31 in total.
Since 1930 Wales has won 234 medals, 51 of them gold. See our

The Commonwealth Games podiums of the past have seen the likes of Lynn Davies, Nicole Cooke, Colin Jackson, Iwan Thomas, David Davies, Berwyn Price, Jamie Baulch, David Roberts, Jazmin Carlin, Becky James and Tanni Grey Thompson fly the flag for Wales.
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi Team Wales, captained by weightlifter Michaela Breeze, enjoyed a haul of 19 medals, including 2 Gold, 7 Silver and 10 Bronze.
