Youth Games by Numbers

  • 2 sets of fellow school pupils will be in the team. 2 from Queen Elizabeth High School in Carmarthen and 2 from Alun High School in Mold
  • 32 athletes will be competing for Wales in the Isle of Man. 15 girls and 17 boys
  • 16 medals were won by Team Wales at the last Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune 2008 – five gold, five silver, six bronze 
  • 4 of the medallists in Pune went on to compete and medal in Delhi
  • 14 is the age of our youngest competitor, gymnast Angel Romaeo 
  • 18 is the age of our eldest competitor, Robert Sansby – also a gymnast 
  • 6 is the number of sports that Wales will compete in at the Games. They will not compete in rugby 7s
  • 4 is the number of days that the Commonwealth Games will be contested in the Isle of Man
  • 10 is the number of Athletes in the swimming squad – the largest squad in Team Wales
  • 3 is the number of players in Wales’ badminton squad. This is the smallest team in Team Wales
  • 3000 is the number of seats at the upgraded Isle of Man National Stadium which will house the athletics competiton
  • 1368am is the frequency of Manx Radio, which will be providing live commentary from 8.30am to 9pm on competition days. Also available at www.manxradio.com
  • 16 photographers will snapping the action across the four day of competition
  • 69 of the 71 Commonwealth nations will compete at the Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man
  • 11am is the time of the boxing draw on Thursday 8th Sept where we will find out who will be Team Wales’ first competitor
  • 4 September is the day the first members of Team Wales will arrive on the island
  • 2 is the number of physiotherapists that will be on hand to support Team Wales athletes
  • 6 is the place Wales finished, after the last Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune.
  • 1 is the number of Team Wales Athletes that will celebrate birthdays during the Games; cyclist Elinor Barker
